Learn to make hats - Master Classes 2 days workshop

MILLINERY MASTER CLASSES 

WORKING WITH FELT OR SINAMAY MATERIAL

Held over 2 days, students will learn how to block felt or sinamay to create one beautiful hat using wooden blocks and the highest quality millinery felt. 

Various essential millinery techniques will be taught including:

# Designing a hat

# Stiffener application

# Blocking an shaping material using steam and a wooden block

# How to measure your head for an accurate fit

# Sewing in a brim wire 

# Sewing a head sizing ribbon 

# Plus various ways to embellish your creation including grosgrain and felt  

The focus of this class is on blocking techniques and although most participants complete their hats during the two days, you may have homework (the fun kind), if you do not have time to trim your hats completely.  

I will make sure you leave with your hat fully blocked and stabilized and ready for trimming. Some participants block a second hat, to take away and trim at home – if you wish to do so, extra materials will be available for purchase on the day.  All materials and tools are provided, though you are welcome to bring that special box of trim that you have been collecting  for that special project! 

Some previous sewing experience is required, classes are kept small so that I may help you out every step of the way. To make sure everyone gets my personal attention, class sizes are limited to four people. Tea and cakes will be served, but participants are encouraged to bring a light lunch.  This class is a lot of fun and makes an excellent gift idea!
